No retreat, No Surrender

Everyone is going to be writing about New Years resolutions today so I figured I would add to the massive internet pile.  We all make resolutions whether we would like to admit it or not.  Some of us doing it by writing out everything on paper, while others make a list in their heads that they will soon forget.

This year we literally rolled into town with our eyes focused on the Lord.  I had a young person ask me on our annual conference trip, “If you could make one change (a resolution if you will) in us as teenagers, what would it be?”  I answered this young man and everyone else in the car that was listening, “That you committee yourself to a daily walk with God.  That in this walk you would allow Him to remove small sin issues slowly.  That in this walk you allow Christ to open your heart.  That in this walk you would grow in your relationship with Christ so that you may experience true joy.”  That’s my New Years resolution and what I desire for everyone.

In committing to walk with God daily, in making the resolution to be committed to Christ, I must surrender everything I have.  This surrender includes my reputation, my stuff, my demands, and my privacy.  I must allow myself to become completely transparent so that I can grow in Christ so that God can be glorified in my life.

This year, may you be alive in Christ.  May your resolution be that you will committee to a daily walk with God.  That you would allow Him to soften your heart this year so that you can be “made new”.  This year make the resolution to grow in your relationship with Christ.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” -Psalm 37:7

Experience true joy this year!
