Christian College Trip Thoughts

It’s been a crazy couple of days.  As some of you know, I took five of my students on a Christian college trip lasting four days, hitting four states, seeing five colleges (Cedarville, Grace, Cornerstone, Trinity, and Moody, see links in a couple of post below this one).

We have traveled over fifteen hours so far with five hours still left to go (we will be home tomorrow and hit Moody up in the morning).  I wanted to post some of my thoughts on the schools we have visited so far.

Cedarville University

  • Big school with a lot going on for them.
  • Extremely professional in their approach to teenagers.  If I were a parent, I would be impressed and push my student toward this campus.
  • Chapel is very conservative with little “spiritual atmosphere” of the students being on “fire”.
  • Everything at the campus looks excellent.
  • Most buildings are close together but there is still a few far distances to walk to classes if you attended.
  • Every student walks out of graduation with a Bible minor, no matter what area you choose to study.

Grace College

*Being an alumni (and a representative) I know I hold a bias opinion so keep that in mind.

  • I fear Grace is going “loose” in their approach.  Although we were only there for a few hours, I saw some areas that concerned me.  However, it wasn’t enough for me to ever stop from pushing a student to attend.
  • Grace is so open and family like in their approach.
  • The campus is electric.  The students at Grace are unlike no other.  Maybe it’s because I spent so much time there, maybe it’s because I had a good experience, regardless, I always feel at home at Grace.

Cornerstone College

  • Cornerstone blew me away from the moment we walked on campus to the moment we walked away.  The campus is ready to blow up and it shows in everyone who is there.
  • Their chapel was amazing.  All the student were singing and praising God with both their voice and their actions.  You could tell there was an energy like no other present in the building.  The “service” was relevant, engaging, and full of ways to apply what just happened at chapel to your life.
  • Everything is progressive.  Cornerstone is not afraid to push forward in regards to technology and communication.  They are also progressive in pushing their students to grow in Christ.
  • Every student who chooses to attend Cornerstone gets a free laptop.  Nice.

Trinity College

  • Trinity is extremely small and behind in a few areas.
  • I look forward to visiting Trinity in the years to come as they are in the progress of updating their much needed campus.
  • I don’t have a lot to say about the Trinity undergrad experience.  However, I am impressed with their Seminary.  If your looking for a great Seminary (that’s not Grace Seminary. Plug?), look into Trinity.

Moody Bible Institute

  • We shall see tomorrow.

If you know me, you know my opinion.  Christian college is where it’s at.  I can not stress enough the importance of a Christian College.  It’s the perfect place to submerge, equip, and train our young people to grow more and develop their spiritual gifts.  Forget price tags and excuses.  If you ask my opinion (and some people do), for my students in our group, I would choose a four year Christian college right after high school.  It just makes sense.

Go out and visit these schools, do your research, and see for yourself how the Christian College can do amazing work in the lives of young people.

It’s awesome.

Thanks for your thoughts on these schools. What a great way to spend some time with students, too. Great thoughts.

I bet you’ve had some great conversations with the students you have been traveling with.
