He Said What?

I’m reading this book recommended by Relevant Magazine called “As They See ‘Em” by Bruce Webber.  The book is about umpires in professional baseball and how difficult their job can be.  There was a quote I ran across in the book by Ken Kaiser, who worked for more than two decades in the major leagues.  He wrote a job description for umpires in his book, “Planet of the Umps“.

It is as follows:

If you like having every close decision you make criticized, if you like doing your job surrounded by thousands of people ready to blame you for mistakes other people make, every one of them believing they can do your job better than you can, and if you don’t mind the only response you get for a job done absolutely perfectly being silence, then maybe you would like being an umpire.

I rewrote it because I think it applies to those in ministry as well.

What do you think?
