Vision for Youth Notes: Session Four

Vision for Youth Conference
Session Four: Ed Lewis
Its Their Church Too

Issues adults face in challenging youth to serve:

  • Prejudice – The young people are blamed for things that happen in the church that are not always their fault.  You are an avocate for teens in the church
  • Programming – Students need to be out in front of the church.  The church needs to see students in action not behind the scenes or stuffed in the youth room.
  • Protection – Making mistakes well, learning from failure.
  • Passion for local people
  • Priorities – Using students well to serve the community and the church itself.

How to train students through the church

  • Start with children
  • Give students ownership
  • Use the concept of training them by: inviting, observing, training, affirming, evaluating, recognizing, and reflecting

My Thoughts:

Ed ministers to people both young and old in the inner Philly city.  He is truly one guy who lives out his faith day by day and it’s awesome to watch.  I have always said that Ed is like a puppy who’s excited when he sees you when you open the door as you come home.  His stuff is engaging and entertaining but encouraging and simple.  It’s good to hear practical information that “spurs one another on”.

Good stuff.
