Media Dump for July 10th

Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting out of the Box by The Arbinger Institute – “Learning how the process of self-deception works–and how to avoid it and stay in touch with our innate sense of what’s right–is at the heart of the book.”

An absolute must read for anyone in the ministry.  Although the book is “secular”, t is littered with so many biblical principled that could/should be placed in the church.  I need to read this one again and again.

Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip and Dan Health – “People have two separate “systems” in their brains—a rational system and an emotional system. The rational system is a thoughtful, logical planner. The emotional system is, well, emotional—and impulsive and instinctual.”

I’m a little over a hundred pages into this book right now.  Not hard to tell why this was a New York Times best seller for weeks.

Brandon Boyd – The Wild Trapeze: “Brandon Boyd is the lead singer of pop/rock band Incubus. Following their last album ‘Light Grenades’, the band each took a brief period of time to explore their own interests.”

Brandon is a guy that has always intrigued me since high school.  I’m not sure what I think of the disc yet as I’m still processing my thoughts.  Regardless, it’s on rotation right now.

Norma Jean – Meridional: “Meridional, the band’s fifth studio album, revisits the abrasive and chaotic roots of classic Norma Jean while offering fans a dark experimental side: the band stretching out on moody, slow-burn jams.”

God bless real Christian metal and the horse it rode in on.  The disc technically doesn’t come out for three days so I’ll hold my thoughts for a later time.  However, Norma Jean has been a constant headphone selection for years (I say head phone because while Bethany believes Christian metal singers to love Jesus, she can’t stand their music).

Starfield – The Saving One: “After the release of Starfield’s critically acclaimed I Will Go album, the band hit the road with a relentless passion to reach as many fans as possible around the globe.”

If you can’t have metal blaring around the house, then you better get something a little more “ear-friendly”.  Enter Starfield’s new record.  The disc is one I can’t put down.  I absolutely love the lead singers voice, the catchy guitars, and the lyrics that boast about a great God we serve.

This is my life in 5 to 10 years, if not right now.  Fatherhood rocks.

What’s in your media selections for the week?
