Start the Day Right

Getting up in the morning can be the catalyst to a great day or detrimental to a day in the dumps.

Four things I do to get my day on the right track.

Before Bed:

1. Meditate on Christ Before I Go to Sleep: The quality of sleep you get the night before can affect your mood the next day. If you want to create a better day tomorrow, ask Christ to fill you up before you go to bed. Remember, you need a good night’s rest in order to prepare your mind and body for the busy day ahead so why not spend some time before you go to bed asking for a refill from the Holy Spirit.  When I was a kid I asked my Dad if it was okay to fall asleep praying.  He said, “I can’t think of a better way to fall asleep.” Amen.

2. Take Notes of the Things I Need to Do: Get a moleskin, laptop (I have both), or something to write down what you need to do tomorrow. I send myself text messages from my phone before I go to bed to my e-mail address so my day is waiting for me in the morning.  I sleep better knowing that I’m going to bed with a clear mind.

In the Morning:

3. Verbally Tell myself That Today is Going to be a Day: The first thing that you should say to yourself the moment you wake up is say, “today will be great and marvelous day”. Seriously, I do this every morning. Don’t laugh until you try it. I once heard someone say that 90% of the game is mental.  I agree. Therefore, you need tell yourself what kind of day you will have in your mind. The power of the mind is so strong.  Feed your mind with positive things.  That starts with telling myself, “today is going to be an awesome day.”

4. Wake Up a Few Minutes Earlier: If you want to get out of bed at 6AM, set the alarm for 5:45 and then allow 15 minutes for your body and mind to adjust and wake up. Seriously, it works. Waking up late and rushing through things will increase your heart rate and simply stress you out.  I also found out that the morning workout and cup of coffee tastes so much better when I beat my alarm. Again, this goes to the mind.  i tell myself before I go to bed what time I’ll wake up in the morning. 90% of the time it works.

Yesterday is but today’s memory, and tomorrow is today’s dream.” -Kahlil Gibran

Think about it.
