Christian Hip-Hop List

I had an e-mail come through this week asking about Christian Hp-Hop and my preferences or recommendations for top albums and song selection.  I thought I would share the response here.  Feel free to add to the list of some of your favorite guys who are “killing it” for Jesus.
NOTE: The following is what I would call serious Hip-Hop/Rap (think fast lyrics and simple chorus)
  • Artist / Disc / Thoughts
  • 116 Clique / 13 Letters / 13 letters is an awesome take on the 13 letters in the New Testament. It’s amazing.
  • Da T.R.U.T.H / Open Book / Good stuff that sounds more mainstream with a clean positive message
  • FLAME / Our World: Redeemed / The album is a passionate, but basic, explanation of God’s pursuit for His created people.
  • LeCrae / After the Music Stops / This disc set the standard for Christian Hip-Hop. It is one of my favorites and probably always will be. Very powerful and fun
  • LeCrae / Rebel / This disc is so solid from start to finish. I love it as well.
  • Sho Baraka / Turn My Life Up / This guy is amazing.  It’s more, what I would call, “Hard Hip-hop” (think fast and aggressive). I love this disc.
NOTE: The following are “Runners Up” (think cheezy/fun Christian hip-hop.  I don’t listen to this stuff as much)
  • Artist / Disc / Thoughts
  • KJ-52 / It’s Pronounced Five Two / Older disc but still a good fun record
  • Group 1 Crew / Group 1 Crew / This is the closest thing you will find to the band “Black Eyed Peas” (Secular) you will find.  Not huge in “Christian” lyrics though.
  • Pigeon John / Dragon Slayer / This guy is nuts.  His lyrics are pure fun comedy that makes me giggle
  • John Reuben / Word of Mouth / This guy is fun too
My selection of songs from each disc:
  • 116 Clique – To Live is Christ
  • Da T.R.U.T.H. – Star Struck
  • Da T.R.U.T.H. – Price Tag
  • FLAME – Joyful Noise
  • LeCrae – (After the Music Stops) – Jesus Muzik
  • LeCrae – (Rebel) – Don’t Waste Your Live
  • Sho Baraka – Rebuild the City
  • KJ-52 – Dear Slim pt. 2
  • Group 1 Crew – Love is a Beautiful Thing
  • Group 1 Crew – Forgive Me
  • Pigeon John – The Bomb
  • John Reuben – Word of Mouth
God bless Hip-Hop!

Hey man, if you haven’t heard of Shad (a christian rapper from Toronto) then you’re missing out huge! he isn’t on a christian label but his stuff is really positive, if not overtly christian. check it:
